Lover's Eye Pendant

$200.00 - $220.00

A brief history lesson. The year is 1785, and Prince George of Wales is besotted with Maria Anne Fitzherbert. She, however was a Catholic widow, and laws forbade her from ever becoming queen, but Georgie didn't care, he was in love. She fled to the colonies to avoid the scandal, whereupon George kept sending her increasingly desperate letters and gifts, one in particular being a small, intensely detailed portrait of his eye, set in a locket. Ms.Fitzherbert eventually relented, and returned to England and married the prince in secret. Since then, the Lover's Eye portrait became a very popular token, for love, remembrance, memento mori, and more, for several centuries. Even Queen Victoria kept one in her collection. The portraits were commonly put into brooches, and lockets, as to keep your love's watchful gaze with you at all times. Now, I can't paint, so this is my spin on the Lover's Eye. I've taken antique, solid glass doll eyes, and carefully set them in dainty frames of fine silver. Bezels of delicately intricate filligree, hold the eyes securely in place. For extra strength, and beauty, I've ringed them in a secondary, smaller ring of patterned fine silver. The whole thing is soldered solidly on a base of gleaming sterling. You can see I've made these in both a pendant, and ring, whichever you prefer. I've made these particular pieces in greyish blue, since that is the color of my darling's eyes. But, I have glass eyes of almost every color and various sizes in stock, and I'm thrilled to help you design a token as lovely and unique as your beloved. Either one for yourself, or one to gift to your lover. A completely one of a kind statement piece, just as unique as your sweetie.

Artist Note: Each pendant is made custom to order, so please indicate your preferred color, and size in the notes section of your order. Also, I'm happy to modify the design to fit your tastes, send me an e-mail and we'll discuss options. ^_^
